Experts: Most of new smartphones’ users overlook preinstalled apps

MOSCOW, Oct 7 (PRIME) -- Most of owners of new iPhone and Samsung smartphones do not notice or barely remember preinstalled Russian applications, according to a study conducted by news and research agency TelecomDaily seen by PRIME on Thursday.

According to the law, in force since April 1, all the smartphones, tablets, computers, and Smart TV sets must have preinstalled national software programs, Apple offers users of its devices to upload Russian applications via a selection window opening only when the device is switched on for the first time, TelecomDaily said.

Samsung groups icons with applications into a folder entitled as Law, which is always available on the screen.

“The option of Russian software installation implemented by Apple turned out to be the most inconvenient: 79% of owners of a new iPhone prefer setting only basic functions when switching on the device for the first time,” the experts said, adding that the study showed that 45% of iPhone users did not notice the selection window.

The research also uncovered that 64% of Samsung smartphone owners were unaware of the Law folder, which could be attributed to it not being located on the first screen.

Users found the most useful such applications as state services Gosuslugi, navigation service Yandex.Maps, and search engine Yandex.

TelecomDaily polled 1,850 buyers of new Apple and Samsung smartphones.
